First Annual “Bluesberry” Festival

July 21, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Welcome to the one of the many exciting summer happenings at the South Whidbey Commons Cafe and Books !

Our first fundraising event this year is the First Annual “Bluesberry” Festival, a concert at the Mutiny Bay Blues blueberry farm in Freeland on July 21st 1-5pm, doors open at noon.  It will be an afternoon of great music by LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends, Hot Club of Troy and Muse and eye.  There will be food from the Café and adult beverages from Roaming Radish.

Muse and eye, are the acoustic country/folk duo of Sarah Dial Primrose and Russell Clepper they perform a repertoire consisting mostly of Russell’s original songs. He has been called a “lyricist’s lyricist” and “a thinking man’s songwriter.” With Sarah’s sublime vocals and his own apt guitar work, the two troubadours have performed all around the Puget Sound area, New Mexico, Colorado, and Russell’s native Texas.  Russell calls their music flatland folk, buffalo grass and vague country.  A local favorite, they open the show.

Proceeds of the event, will benefit South Whidbey Commons/Commons Cafe and Books, which provides an intentional space for people to gather. The South Whidbey Commons creates opportunities for youth to obtain job and life skills training. Students can earn school and/or volunteer credit.  Many of their trainees have gone on to work in local restaurants and businesses, or are furthering their training in culinary arts. There are programs for all ages that bring the community together.  South Whidbey Commons also has partnerships with other non-profits, such as The South Whidbey School District and their School Farm Program, Good Cheer Food Bank, and Island Shakespeare Festival.

As a 501(c)3 non-profit they rely on community support through donations, bookstore and cafe sales, and proceeds from this, and other fundraising events.

The “Bluesberry” Festival is made possible with the generous help of the Mutiny Bay Blues blueberry farm, www.mutinybayblues.com, and additional help from Roaming Radish, www.roamingradish.com, and KNKX 88.5 FM      www.knkx.org
